Camp Outdoor Program Manager Job Description 

The Camp Outdoor Program Manager’s (OPM) prime function is to work closely with the Camp Director and the Assistant Director to help create the vision for the continued development of Eagle’s Nest Camp and Hante Adventures programs and to assist in ensuring the Eagle’s Nest Foundation mission is central to the camp programs. The Camp Outdoor Program Manager will help support the long-range goals for Eagle’s Nest Camp and Hante Adventures through the programs that we run and the staff that we hire, train and supervise.

POSITION SUMMARY
The OPM will focus on the development, implementation, marketing, and promotions of programs for Eagle’s Nest Camp with outdoor programs as their focus. The OPM will work closely with the Camp Director, Assistant Director and Camp Program & Staff Manager (CPSM) and Camp Registrar to help ensure the content and quality of the classes, related activities, and all logistics associated with running camp programs, including curriculum development and assistance with interviewing and mentoring staff.

The OPM shall serve as a member of the full time administrative leadership and will serve as a mentor and provide supervisory support (along with the Camp Director) for summer leadership staff. This position is to serve the Foundation with primary responsibility to Eagle’s Nest Camp. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership and Support:
  1. Create program design for Eagle’s Nest Camp, primarily for outdoor classes, cabin outings and campouts, working closely with the Assistant Director and the Camp Program and Staff Manager (CPSM). This work includes overseeing the creation and updating of curriculum guides and resources for all outdoor classes. Along with the Assistant Director oversee program content of all outdoor based classes and assist counselors as needed with program design and safety.
  2. With the Assistant Director, manage program purchases, inventory, and upkeep and repair  of equipment, supplies, and program facilities for all outdoor activities. This includes all purchases for campcraft, rock climbing, and canoeing classes. Set up summer camp program areas for outdoor classes. Be responsible for the condition of trails and campsites. Should delegate however necessary in all areas above and should be in coordination with and assisting the Property Manager with upkeep.
  3. Purchase outdoor program equipment for OA in coordination with the OEM and the Assistant Camp Director.
  4. Assist the Director and CPSM with scheduling classes. Work with the Camp Director, CPSM and staff to establish the maximum numbers of campers per activity.
  5. Work with the CPSM on camper scheduling, pre-sign ups and sign-ups. Supervise seasonal Summer Assistant Program Manager in creation of rosters and sign-up procedures.
  6. Maintain camper schedules, be on hand in the Program Office for advice, changes, etc.
  7. Arrange Program Office coverage during class times and be in charge of jobs needing to be done during that time.

Risk Management:
  1. Assist the Assistant Camp Director with the accreditation process for American Camp Association.
  2. Support the Assistant Camp Director with overseeing the risk management for Eagle’s Nest Camp as it is related to outdoor programming.
  3. Support the Assistant Camp Director with organizing and updating emergency paperwork for on campus emergencies for Camp and ensure paperwork is properly distributed. Work with the Assistant Director to Educate and train staff in risk management.
  4. Participate in Risk Management Committee Meetings.
  5. Review and assist the Assistant Director with updating the Incident and Accident spreadsheet with Incident and Accident reports for outdoor programs, off campus programs, waterfront programs and general campus accidents and incidents. Respond to trends as you see them throughout the summer.
  6. Stay current with industry standards in regards to safety for outdoor activities.
  7. Track trends and make recommendations for improvement to the Risk Management Committee.
  8. Assist ACD and Bs. Office with the filing of insurance claims as they relate to outdoor program and risk management

Staff Support:
  1. Assist with recruiting and interviewing summer staff, and attending staffing fairs. 
  2. Assist with the management of pre-camp staff training under the direction of the CPSM. This includes staff pickups, welcoming and greeting staff, and establishing a professional environment for all participants by implementing all systems in camp: rules, regulations and job assignments.
  3. With the Assistant Director help create and maintain job descriptions for staff working in outdoor programs.
  4. Help train staff on giving and receiving feedback.
  5. In the summer, observe and mentor staff, and assist with teaching classes.
  6. Assist with planning and leading staff orientation.
  7. Train and supervise the seasonal Summer Outdoor Logistics Coordinator
  8. As a full time Camp Administrator, serve as a Rambler (on call person for the entire campus).
  9. Oversee the pro-deal program for full-time and seasonal staff.
  10. Oversee the POH in the summer working with the Outdoor Logistics Coordinator to prepare for trips off campus and cleaning on return.

Budgeting:
  1. Work with the Assistant Camp Director to build the program budget for outdoor camp program needs. Oversee those budgets.
  2. Work with appropriate OA faculty members to budget for programs that share supplies.
  3. Review and organize receipts and accounting for outdoor programs, following Business Office procedures. Submit to the Business Office in a timely fashion.
  4. Train staff on purchasing and accounting following Business Office procedures. Review budget details with them.

Marketing Support:
  1. Assist with marketing of camp and outdoor programs at Eagle’s Nest, including some travel for promotions to visit potential campers and staff members, making connections with outdoor programs, clubs, and schools and in other organizations.
  2. Assist with blog writing for Eagle’s Nest Camp and Hante Adventures.

Foundation Support:
  1. Assist with program management for ENF Trustee/Rep Weekend.
  2. Assist with event management for campus rentals (weddings, retreats, etc.)
  3. Assist with general office function, cleaning,  and phone coverage as needed.
  4. Other duties as assigned.
